8, Martha Street, Shadwell

On 2nd May, 1916, 1st Wiltshire of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division moved into the front line trenches at La Targette, to the north of Arras in France. The following day, 3rd May, 1916, was a quiet one in these trenches until 8pm when the Germans blew two mines, one of which obliterated a bombing post. Three of the men in this post were never seen again. One of these was Alfred Singlehurst.
